I am an interdisciplinary artist who focuses on thematic approaches to photographic art. My work reflects the challenges of cultural translation and engages geographical, cultural, and subjective responses. I document the world around me with straight, unedited images.
In my earlier work, pinhole photography’s ephemeral, dreamlike quality allowed me to capture cinematic moments. It also showed the passing of time in a single image as well as a surface of the reality from another dimension (similar to the way our mind layers images).
My most recent work pairs text with traditional and digital photography. In these photographs, I’ve used slide projectors to project pinhole photographs on sheer curtains. The curtains are left open to invite viewers to insert themselves – physically – into the image. I used the metaphor of the curtain to connect memory and to encourage transactions between cultures and generations.
My objective is to establish an imaginary or virtual window using multimedia installations. The audio portion of this installation presents fragmented accounts that were a narrative of memory, conscious, and unconscious moments. In this way the recorded voice projects a dream.
