Shattered by Gary Beck

When love has departed
and only bitter dreams remain,
I think of midnight meetings
as we groped like two deaflings,
eager to touch each other,
until there was no more past.
Tonight a scorching pang
isolates the lost weavers,
crushing the hope of intertwine,
the shuttle of our woof and warp.

The goat god plays his mocking pipes,
my feet move in the ancient dance,
but my heart is as stone as statue.
I sit beside the turmoil pool
and watch the last angels
bow their heads in finality,
as the frigid moon passes by
and my love is deceased.
